Wall Sconce, Flush Mount

There is no pattern on this fixture — only the hammer. A sheet of solid copper is beaten thousands of times by hand until it becomes a disc. Every blow leaves its own small hollow, and the surface is the sum of those hollows. No two pieces are ever the same.

The light works with that texture. Each hammer mark sends light off at a different angle, so the fixture reads not as one bright face but as thousands of small points of glare. Lit, it leaves a soft, moving brightness on the ceiling and wall — a depth no glazed fixture can give.

Copper is softer and warmer than brass; beaten, it does not tear but flows. The antique brass patina is worked over that softness: dark inside the hollows, light on the crests. It deepens over the years and the piece takes on a character of its own.

It mounts to a ceiling or a wall. On the ceiling it gives general light; on the wall, a wide disc of it.

At home in low-ceilinged living rooms, bedrooms, hotel rooms and corridors, entrance halls, restaurant and café ceilings. It works alone and in rows.

Made one at a time in our workshop. Size, colour and light layout change to order.
