Wall Sconce, Flush Mount

A single sheet of brass, beaten thousands of times into a dome. Every dimple left on the surface is one blow of the hammer; no two pieces are ever alike. That texture is the whole ornament of this sconce.

The light source sits behind the disc and is never seen. The light that reaches the wall spills past the rim and forms a wide halo: what lights the room is the wall itself, not the lamp. Switched off in daylight, what remains is a beaten brass disc hung on a wall.

The convex dome does not spread light evenly; it is denser above and softens towards the bottom. That makes it work well in a corridor, a stairwell or beside a bed.

The antique brass finish is a patina applied to the metal; it stays dark in the hollows of the beaten surface and light on the ridges, bringing the texture forward. It deepens with time and gives the piece a character of its own over the years.

Two sizes are made: Ø20 cm and Ø30 cm. The two can be used together on the same wall.

Each piece is beaten one at a time in our workshop. Dimensions, finish and light arrangement vary with the order, and the piece is prepared differently for interior or sheltered exterior use.
