Wall Sconce

Two materials meet on this sconce: heavy pierced brass and fine, vertically fluted crystal glass. The shade wrapping the body is not a plain cylinder — its surface is built from fluted Pyrex crystal glass. The flutes refract the light, drawing each one into a separate line, so that lit the shade reads not as a single bright face but as a row of filaments of light.

We chose Pyrex for its strength. It withstands thermal shock, will not craze at high temperature, and works safely through long burning hours and the temperature swings of an outdoor wall. Its crystal clarity is what lets the flutes do their work.

Above sits a pierced dome cap in a diamond lattice, crowned with a turned finial. Below, a deep bowl pierced in the same pattern carries a long dropped finial. These two pierced ends throw soft, patterned shadows onto the wall and ceiling alongside the clear light of the shade — the piece lights and ornaments at once.

Antique brass patina is a special finish worked onto the metal: dark along the pierced edges, lighter across the open surfaces, deepening over the years.

At home in hotel entrances, lobbies and receptions, restaurant façades, pool and terrace walls, arched niches and wide corridors. At 60 cm tall it is scaled to carry a wall on its own.
