An arm curving in the shape of a swan's neck, and at its end a teardrop lantern hanging from a short chain. The whole body is pierced by hand: interlacing rumi stems, small flowers opening between them and thousands of connecting gaps. The pattern is not an ornament stuck to the surface; it is taken out of the metal itself.
The light passes not through glass but straight through these cuts. What falls on the wall is not brightness but a net of shadow opening like lace; lit, the wall around the lantern does more work than the piece itself. Switched off in daylight, what remains is a pierced brass teardrop on the wall.
The form is built on the silhouette of an Ottoman oil lamp: a narrowing neck above, a belly reaching its widest at the middle, a collared base below and a hammered finial at the tip. The swan-neck arm carries the lantern away from the wall, so the shadow pattern finds room to spread.
The antique brass finish is a patina applied to the metal; it stays dark inside the cuts and light on the surface, bringing the pattern forward. It deepens with time and gives the piece a character of its own over the years.
It is used in hotel corridors, entrance halls, seating corners, terraces and sheltered exteriors. Set in a row it builds a repeating rhythm of shadow along a wall.
Each piece is pierced one at a time in our workshop. Size, pattern, finish and light arrangement vary with the order.
