Two different behaviours of light are gathered in one body here. The middle band carries arched opal windows: the light that leaves through them is soft, even and free of glare — this is the part that actually lights the room. The dome above and the bowl below are pierced throughout; the light passing there throws the pattern itself onto the wall.
The result is a balance rarely found in a lantern: usable lighting and a play of shadow working at the same time. Calm light at seated height, a moving texture towards ceiling and floor.
The body is octagonal and sits half sunk into the wall. The arch is repeated along the upper edge of each opal window — a direct reading of the window language of Moroccan and Andalusian architecture. The hammered finials above and below close the silhouette.
The antique brass finish is a patina applied to the metal; it stays dark inside the cuts and light on the plain surfaces, bringing the pattern forward. It deepens with time and gives the piece a character of its own over the years.
It suits hotel rooms and corridors, restaurant walls, seating corners, entrance halls and bedsides. Set in a row it builds a repeating rhythm of light along a wall.
Each piece is pierced one at a time in our workshop. Size, pattern, finish and light arrangement vary with the order; a different height or another tone of patina can be produced to order.
