Wall Sconce

A half dome, resting its back against the wall. The whole body is pierced one cut at a time: curving stems, three-lobed palmettes and the spaces between them. These openings are not ornament; they are how the lamp works.

The light passes not through glass or a shade but straight through the openwork. What falls on the wall and ceiling is not light but the pattern itself: lit, the sconce opens broad fans of shadow to either side of the room. Switched off in daylight, what remains is a pierced brass bowl.

The plain collar above and the hammered drop below balance the density of the pierced surface. The drop is beaten with a hammer; the sharp lines of the piercing and the soft texture of the beating stand side by side.

The antique brass finish is a patina applied to the metal; it stays dark inside the cuts and light on the surface, bringing the pattern forward. It deepens with time and gives the piece a character of its own over the years.

It is used in corridors, stairwells, beside beds and in hammam and spa areas. Set in a row, it builds a repeating rhythm of shadow along a wall.

Each piece is worked one at a time in our workshop. Size, pattern, finish and light arrangement vary with the order, and the piece is prepared differently for interior or sheltered exterior use.
