Flush Mount

A forty-centimetre dome sitting flush against the ceiling. The whole body is pierced by hand: interlocking star flowers, curving rumi stems and the thousands of openings left between them. These are not ornament; they are how the fitting works.

The light passes not through glass but straight through the openwork. What falls into the room is not light but the pattern itself: lit, ceiling, walls and floor are covered by the same motif at once. Switched off in daylight, what remains is a pierced brass dome resting on the ceiling.

The hammered drop at its tip balances the density of the pierced surface and gives the form its Ottoman dome silhouette. The plain collar above fixes the piece to the ceiling; it does not hang, so it suits low ceilings.

The antique brass finish is a patina applied to the metal; it stays dark inside the cuts and light on the surface, bringing the pattern forward. It deepens with time and gives the piece a character of its own over the years.

It is used in entrance halls, corridors, hammam and spa areas, and rooms with low ceilings.

Each piece is worked one at a time in our workshop. Size, pattern, finish and light arrangement vary with the order; a different diameter or another tone of patina can be produced to order.
