Table Lamp

An old habit, kept on the desk.

The lamp of reading rooms, notaries' offices, the far side of a counter. The weighted, stepped round base settles on the table; at the top of the upright stands a horizontal T-arm, turned at both ends. The bell shade hangs from it on a joint — the tilt is set by hand, so the light falls on the page and not in the eye.

The shade is left open inside; the brass turns the light warm and throws it down. What forms on the desk is a narrow, clean pool, with the rest of the room left dark. That is the light reading and writing want.

The finish is antique brass, worked by hand; no two pieces age alike. The switch sits on the base, so there is no cord to hunt for.

Dimensions: 45 cm high, 32 cm wide, 20 cm arm reach. Shade 20 cm across and 12 cm deep. Base 18 cm across.

Made to order. Size, colour and quantity change on request; metal and electrical fittings are specified per order.

Also made in an antique nickel finish.

Handmade in the same Istanbul workshop since 1984.
