A pierced teardrop body above, a turned solid collar at the middle, and a second pierced bowl beneath. The collar separates the two and stands as the only unbroken surface between them.

Both bodies are pierced throughout with vine and rumi motifs. Light leaves upward from the top and downward from the bottom, while the solid collar passes none at all. What appears on the wall is therefore not one patch but two separate rings of pattern with a dark band between them — and that makes the lantern read far larger than the space it hangs in.

The collar is turned from solid brass. Being solid does two things: it gives the piece a centre of gravity so the lantern does not swing once hung, and it draws a hard, bright line between the two pierced bodies that sharpens the pattern further.

Ø25 cm across, roughly 50 cm tall. Made to any size required.

Antique brass — a patina worked into the metal, not a plating. The same model is also made as a wall sconce.

Ø25 cm is a small size; it gives its best result in a group of three or four rather than alone.
