A six-sided lantern that narrows as it descends. A scrolled crown runs around the upper edge, projecting past the body — it does no work at all; it is there to break the hardness of the silhouette, and it is the reason this reads as a lantern rather than a box.
Each panel is milk-white opal glass carrying an applied metal scrollwork of rumi curves. The light leaves the glass evenly; the pattern stands in front of it as a dark line. The lower body is solid brass with small copper inlays, closed by a pierced pendant drop.
Ø30 cm, approximately 60 cm tall. Narrow enough to run in sequence down a corridor, to hang alone in a hall, or in pairs and threes above a table.
Antique brass patina.
Copper inlay means seating a copper element with a hammer into a recess opened in the brass. The two metals differ in colour — copper runs red, brass yellow — and that difference widens as they age, so the motif grows clearer with time.
The crown band is bent from a single piece and soldered to the body separately, with the symmetry of its curves held by hand.
Bulb not included. Available made to measure in other sizes and colours. Made in our own Istanbul workshop since 1984.
