A rectangular box, an interlocking geometric pattern on all four faces. The pattern is not drawn, printed or applied — it is cut out of the metal itself with a laser. Unlit, the sconce is a quiet brass block; lit, it is something else entirely.
Light passes through the cuts and throws the pattern, enlarged, onto the wall, the ceiling and the floor. As the room darkens this travelling geometry becomes the room's real decoration; the sconce stops being a light fitting and becomes an instrument for drawing on the wall. Light escaping top and bottom leaves lines on ceiling and floor.
The body is metal, carrying an antique brass patina worked into the metal itself rather than paint. No two pieces read the same — one warm gold, the next a darker bronze. The surface deepens with time; it is not to be polished.
Pattern and making: the interlocking geometry runs unbroken across all four faces, continuing around the corners of the box. Cut by laser, edges cleaned by hand, no burrs. The box is folded from one piece; welds are ground back into the surface. Wall plate and arm share the same finish.
Dimensions: 12 × 25 cm. The wall plate fits over a standard back box.
Wiring: E27 lampholder, 60 W maximum. A warm white LED is recommended — the pattern shadow reads most sharply that way. Bulb not included. Hard-wired, mounts with two screws. Electrical connection should be made by a qualified person.
Made for indoor use. Repeated along a corridor or stairwell it sets a band of pattern down the wall. Bedside, beside a fireplace or a picture, entrance halls, hotel rooms and corridors, restaurant walls. Ideal on narrow walls: only 12 cm wide.
Care: wipe with a damp cloth. No abrasives, steel wool or solvents. Dust in the cuts lifts with a dry brush or compressed air.
Handmade in our own Istanbul workshop since 1984.
