Candle Holder

A candle holder with a lid goes on being useful after the candle is gone. That is the idea behind this one: when the flame is out, the stone-look body is not an empty vessel but a container you can close. It takes jewellery, rings, cufflinks, small keys.

The relief pattern across the body gives the surface a handmade texture; it holds light better than a flat face, so the body itself glows faintly while the candle burns.

The lid is metal in an antique brass finish. The contrast between the matt, cool surface of the stone and the warm sheen of the brass is what gives the piece its character. The brass surface is not a plating but a hand-applied patina, and it darkens with time.

The lid also does something practical: it keeps the vessel looking tidy when no candle is lit, and keeps dust out.

It suits coffee tables, bedside tables, bathroom shelves and desks, and sits better grouped in twos or threes at different heights.
