Wall Sconce

An antique brass body with a clear acrylic diffuser. Unlike opal, a clear diffuser hides nothing: the lamp inside and the inner face of the brass stay visible. That makes the sconce something to look at even when it is off.

The antique brass surface is not a plating. It is worked into the metal itself with a chemical patina and hand sanding, darkens over time, and tones differently on every piece — and it is on the face behind the diffuser that this variation reads most clearly.

The body is cut, bent and soldered in our workshop, with the joints trued by hand.

It suits living rooms, bedrooms, corridors, stairwell walls and dining rooms. Placed symmetrically either side of a console or a painting it balances the wall; set at even intervals down a corridor it builds a steady rhythm.

Bulb not included; behind a clear diffuser a filament lamp gives the best result.

Available made to measure in other sizes and colours. Handmade in Istanbul since 1984.
