Section

Wall Sconce

A long capsule: a slim brass frame rounded at both ends, with an opal diffuser running its full length inside. Nothing else. Proportion does the work instead of ornament — the contrast between the narrow width of the frame and the length of the body turns the piece into a vertical line on the wall.

The frame is formed by bending a single piece of brass; the curve at each end is opened by hand rather than pressed in a mould, so every piece turns slightly its own way. The fine brush marks left on the surface are hand-made too, and light slides along them end to end.

The light sits behind the opal diffuser and the bulb is never visible from any angle. The diffuser scatters the light inside first, then gives it out at an even density: no hard patch on the wall, just a soft and balanced glow. Light spilling past the top and bottom ends leaves a thin halo on the wall.

Dimensions: 60 cm high, about 10 cm wide, projecting 6 cm from the wall. Mounts vertically or horizontally.

Colour: Antique brass. A hand-applied finish with real depth; it darkens on the curved ends and lifts across the flat face.

Use it beside a mirror, in a corridor, a stairwell, at a bedside or along restaurant walls. Repeated in pairs or in a row it gives the space a rhythm — it sets up a wall order rather than reading as a single fitting.
