Table Lamp

A crystal globe resting on a cylinder, covered at an angle by a single disc. Solaris is made of these three parts and nothing else.

The body is a drawn metal cylinder. Fine horizontal lathe marks run across its surface — not a flaw, but the record of a part worked by hand. The antique brass finish is a patina applied to the metal; it deepens with time, lightens naturally where hands rest, and gives the piece a character of its own over the years.

A solid crystal globe, 8 cm across, sits on top of the cylinder. Small air bubbles suspended inside the glass scatter star-like points of light across the body and the table below. The globe is not merely a housing but a lens: it refracts the light, multiplies it and softens it.

The disc above spans 28 cm and sits at a slight tilt. Its inner face is left bright; it throws the light downward and sideways and keeps it out of direct view. The tilt decides where the light goes — turn the lamp and you change the area it lights.

Solaris is made one at a time in our workshop. Dimensions, finish and light arrangement vary with the order, and the piece is prepared differently for interior or sheltered exterior use. A different diameter, a different height or another tone of patina can be produced to order.
