Wall Sconce, Outdoor

This sconce has no body — only a frame and the light seen through it. Two slim metal caps above and below, and between them a textured glass wrapping three sides. There is exactly as much metal as it takes to hold the glass and not a millimetre more. That restraint is what lets it sit on a modern façade and on an old stone or rendered wall alike.

The glass is not flat but raised in texture. The fine ripple across its surface scatters the filament: from outside you see not a sharp point but a soft, wide brightness. To the wall it gives a trembling, water-like surface — even unlit, the glass shows itself through that texture.

Light from the open ends washes the wall in two beams, up and down, while the glass between lights the space directly. Set beside a door, it puts enough light on the handle and the step without striking the eye.

Made in three colours: matte black, pearl white and anthracite. None is a plating — all three are special-order paint, prepared for outdoor conditions, and the colour is chosen with the order.

At home beside entrance doors, under eaves, on garden and terrace walls, at garage and service entrances, on hotel and restaurant façades, and indoors along corridors and stairwells. At 12 cm wide and 10 cm deep it sits easily on a narrow band of wall.

Made one at a time in our workshop. Size, colour and light layout change to order.
