Chandelier, Single Pendant Light

On this chandelier the body itself is a cage. All four faces are cut separately and pierced end to end; what remains of the metal is a fine arabesque net folding into itself. No face is left with an empty field — the pattern runs edge to edge and turns the corners uninterrupted.

The upper form is a pointed arch. The four faces narrow upward and meet, lifting the piece out of the plain box lantern and into an architectural silhouette. The base is pierced in the same pattern, so the light descends patterned as well.

Lit, the light inside the cage escapes in fragments. The shadow pattern cast on walls and ceiling is identical to the pattern on the body; under a high ceiling that shadow spreads for metres. The real effect of the lamp shows not on itself but on the surfaces around it.

Antique patina is a special finish worked onto the metal: dark along the pierced edges, lighter on the plain profiles, deepening over the years.

At home in hotel lobbies, receptions and corridors, restaurant and café rooms, stairwells, entrance halls and arched passages. Because the chain is made to order, it works alone under a low ceiling and in rows under a high one.
