Side Table

Gold does not hold still through the day. In morning light it reads cool and matt; once a lamp is lit it warms, and the tray gives the light back to the room. That is why a table this small gets noticed.

HEIGHT MECHANISM The second rod running alongside the stem, with its two collars, is the adjustment. Loosen a collar, set the tray where you want it, tighten again. The table holds anywhere between 65 and 80 cm — no fixed steps, it locks wherever you leave it. Down to the arm of a chair, up to the height you would stand and drink a coffee at. No tools needed.

THE TRAY Ø32 cm, round. The rim turns up slightly, so a cup or a glass will not slide off. The shallow concave surface gathers light — this is where the table's shifting colour through the day comes from.

THE BASE Wide and weighted. Despite the Ø32 cm top the table does not tip; it stays steady even when leaned on. The base plate sits flush to the floor and holds firm on a rug.

COLOUR AND FINISH Matt gold. The colour is a purpose-made paint, not a plating. It will not wear through to another colour underneath, will not darken or verdigris with age, and needs no polishing as brass would.

MATERIAL AND ASSEMBLY Body, tray and base are made of steel. The table ships flat-packed and is screw-assembled; tray, stem and base screw together in a few minutes. No extra tools required.

WHERE IT WORKS Beside an armchair, in front of a fireplace, in a reading corner, at a bedside, in a hotel room, restaurant or bar as a cocktail table. It stands out on dark floors and wood parquet; it stays quiet against pale walls.

CARE Wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, steel wool or solvents. No polish needed.

MADE In our own workshop. The same model is also available in cream white and antique brass.
