A direct reading of the nineteenth-century English hall lantern. A clear glass globe sits inside a cage of dark vertical straps, circled at the equator by a single band pierced in a diamond lattice. That band is the only ornament on the piece.
The vented crown above is not decorative. These lanterns were pierced there to let the heat of an oil flame escape; it still vents the lamp today, and it lays a fine ring of light on the ceiling.
Because the glass is clear the three candle lamps inside stay visible — a small chandelier suspended within the globe. The pierced band softens those flames exactly at eye level.
Ø35 cm. Chain made to the room. Produced in other sizes; at its best run in twos or threes over an island or down a long hall.
The cage straps are bent individually and soldered at the equator band, with every joint trued by hand so the globe sits centred inside them.
Bulbs not included. Available made to measure in other sizes and colours. Made in our own Istanbul workshop since 1984.
