Flat brass bar, bent into a quatrefoil rather than a circle. Seen from below you do not read a ring but a shape in its own right — the one thing that separates this from an ordinary ring chandelier.

Bending bar into a quatrefoil is far harder than bending it into a circle. A circle has a single radius and can be pulled on a former; a quatrefoil is four separate curves meeting tangentially, and the angle at every meeting point is held by hand. A curve bent wrong shows immediately from below.

Six turned candle holders sit on the ring. No shades, no glass, no ornament. The lamps stand exposed and the body is built entirely from line — a brass sketch hanging in the air.

Exposed lamps make the choice of bulb matter: a filament lamp suits this body best, because the form is already linear and the pattern of the filament adds to it.

Four chains gather at a single point in a reeded ceiling rose. Chain length is set to the room.

Ø80 cm. Antique brass — a hand-worked patina, not a plating.
