The sputnik form comes out of the space-race years of the 1950s: arms radiating from a central hub. This chandelier rebuilds that shape in brass and by hand — a modern silhouette meeting a traditional material.

Each arm is formed individually. Because the angle and length of every arm is set by hand, no two pieces are identical; the balance of the form rests on the maker's eye. On factory sputniks the arms come out of a die and are all the same.

The light sources sit at the ends of the arms. That means light arriving from several points spread through the room rather than one — shadows soften and the room reads wider.

The surface is an antique brass patina — worked into the metal rather than plated, and darkening over time. The warmth of the brass balances the cool modernity of the form.

It suits living rooms, dining areas, boutique hotel rooms and entrance halls. Its wide silhouette needs clear space around it.

Bulbs not included. Arm count, size and colour can be changed to order. Made in our own Istanbul workshop since 1984.
