A three-tier onion dome. The onion dome is the most recognisable silhouette in Islamic architecture — a curve that narrows upward and swells at the middle. Stacking three of them repeats that curve and gives the piece height.
The tiered construction also does something to the light. Each tier breaks it once more with its own pattern: light leaving the top tier passes through the second, and what leaves that passes through the third. The result is a far denser, layered texture of pattern than a single-tier lantern produces.
The body is built in brass and metal, worked with a geometric lattice technique. The finish is antique brass — a patina worked into the metal rather than a plating, darkening over time.
The joints between the three tiers are soldered and trued by hand; it is the step that decides whether the form stands true.
It suits hotel lobbies, restaurants, dining rooms, entrance halls and high-ceilinged living rooms.
Bulb not included. Chain length set on request. Available made to measure in other sizes and colours. Handmade in Istanbul since 1984.
