Outdoor

This lantern is not bent but cast. Molten aluminium is poured into a single mould; body, arch and mullions come out at once, in one piece. There is no solder line, no screw head, no joint — and so, left outdoors for years, there is nothing in it that can come apart.

Aluminium is a metal chosen for outdoors: it does not rust, does not salt up in sea air, does not expand in heat and crack in winter. Over it goes a special-order paint prepared for outdoor conditions — not a plating but a surface worked into the metal.

The upper form is a pointed arch, which lifts the lantern out of the plain box and into an architectural silhouette. The crossed mullions on the face both hold the panel and, lit, lay fine long shadow lines across the wall.

Light leaves the opal panels at an even, unglaring brightness; enough falls on the handle, the step and the path.

At home on garden and courtyard walls, villa and hotel entrances, under eaves, on terraces and poolsides, at garage and service entrances.

Made one at a time in our workshop. Size, colour and light layout change to order.
